Summertime… and the livin' is easy! But it's also a little too easy to let the months pass you by. Check out these 5 ways to take a break and enjoy your summer to the fullest.
1. Stop Being Productive—Plan for Play!
Summer is the perfect time to let in the fun. It's a good time to be nostalgic for bygone days and larger-than-life experiences. It's also a great time to create new ones:
- Transport yourself.
- Book a weekend with old friends.
- Organize a family reunion.
As Jimmy Buffet once said, "Fun is about as good a habit as there is." Create some play. Today.
2. Allow for lots of spontaneity.
Be able to drop what you're doing and head to the pool or the open road. Don't be afraid of some upheaval in your routine—enjoy it! Sure, it may mean you leave for the beach without your flip flops, but all is well. Have an amazing time; just go. Now.
3. Do something that's important (to you!)
We're almost halfway through the year. Is there a New Year's resolution you'd like to come to fruition? If you haven't started it already, NOW is the time to act. Carve out the time this month to start.
4. Enjoy your life—wherever you are—right now.
Sure, there's more laundry to do. Yes, the renovation won't be over for months. Even when you're in the thick of it, (especially when you’re in the thick of it) remind yourself that life is so good.
5. Build in Buffers to Reintegrate.
Although we all want to return from a holiday weekend at the last possible moment, give yourself an hour or two at the end of your travel day to settle in. Schedule time to unpack your bag, throw in the laundry, stock the fridge with healthy food, and read your mail. Buffers reduce stress and make transitions easier.
"Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you." – Lao Tzu
If you want to make packing for all your summer travels a breeze, consider a functional master closet or tackle your basement. When you do, decrease your stress beforehand by calling in the organizing professionals.
